A temple visit is a spiritual experience best approached with awareness and respect. Here is a simple guide for first-time and regular visitors alike.

Before You Enter

Dress modestly — cover shoulders and knees. Remove footwear at the designated area; many temples also ask that leather items be left outside. Switch your phone to silent.

Inside the Temple

Move in a clockwise direction during pradakshina. Keep your voice low. Photography is often restricted near the sanctum, so look for signs or ask a priest. When receiving prasadam or teertham, extend your right hand, cupped, with the left hand supporting it.

Offerings

Flowers, fruit, and coconuts are common offerings. There is no obligation to give money; devotion matters more than the value of the offering.

Leaving

It is traditional not to turn your back abruptly on the deity — step back a little before turning. Take a moment outside to sit quietly before re-entering the busy world.

Respecting these customs honours both the space and the community that maintains it.
